Our Reception children have had a wonderful time learning all about how plants grow, and their excitement reached new heights as they planted their very own sunflower seeds. The classroom was filled with curiosity as the children explored what plants need to thrive, from sunlight and water to care and patience.
After learning the basics, the children worked hard to write their own clear, step‑by‑step instructions for planting. They took great pride in their writing, thinking carefully about each stage so that someone else could follow their instructions successfully.

To put their work to the test, Mrs Duffield, Mrs Kay and Mrs Littlewood followed the children’s guides exactly as they were written — and planted their own sunflower seeds too. The children were delighted to see their instructions being used for real, and it was a lovely moment of confidence‑building and celebration.
Now we’re all looking forward to watching our sunflowers grow tall over the coming weeks, just like our amazing Reception learners who are growing in confidence, knowledge and independence every day.
What a fantastic start to their planting journey — well done, Reception!
