St Bega's Launches Partnership with Alice House Hospice
Pupils at St Bega's Catholic Primary School were delighted to welcome a special visitor this week as Gil from Alice House Hospice came to introduce himself and share more about the hospice's important work in the local community. As part of the school's charitable and community-focused activities this year, St Bega's is proud to be supporting Alice House Hospice through a range of fundraising events and initiatives. The first of these will be a Coffee Afternoon taking place next Wednesday, where the school community will have the opportunity to come together and raise funds for this wonderful cause.
Year 1 Scientists Explore How Plants Grow
Pupils in Year 1 at St Bega's Catholic Primary School have been developing their scientific curiosity as they began a new topic exploring how plants start to grow. As part of their science learning, the children planted seeds and discussed what plants need in order to grow and thrive. They are now looking forward to observing the changes that take place over the coming weeks as their seeds begin to develop.

St Bega's Families Invited to Take Part in Great British Beach Clean
Families at St Bega's Catholic Primary School are being encouraged to take part in the Great British Beach Clean over the weekend of 18th September 2026. As part of the national initiative, children will take home a bag and gloves to help them get involved in a local beach clean with their families. The event is a fantastic opportunity to spend time outdoors while helping to protect our coastline and local wildlife.
Early Years Pupils Enjoy a Fantastic Start
Children in Early Years at St Bega's Catholic Primary School have enjoyed a fantastic start to the new school year, settling into their new environment with enthusiasm and curiosity. Over the first few days, pupils have been busy exploring a range of exciting activities designed to support learning through play. One of the highlights has been the new veterinary role-play area, where children have been caring for poorly animals and using their imaginations to develop communication and social skills.
Year 1 Pupils Step Back in Time at Preston Park
Year 1 pupils from St Bega’s Catholic Primary School enjoyed an exciting educational visit to Preston Park, where they explored life in the past through hands-on experiences and historical discoveries. During the trip, the children took part in the Toys in the Past workshop, learning about the different toys children would have played with in previous generations. The session gave pupils the opportunity to compare toys from the past and present, helping to bring their classroom learning to life.
Year 6 Explore Future Pathways at Careers Day
St Bega’s Primary School is celebrating a successful and inspiring Year 6 Careers Day, where pupils had the opportunity to explore a wide range of future pathways and ambitions. The event gave children valuable insight into different professions, as they met visiting speakers who shared their personal journeys and experiences. From the creative industries to public services and beyond, pupils were introduced to a variety of exciting possibilities for the future.

Year 3 pupils recently enjoyed a fantastic Careers Day, filled with inspiration, curiosity, and exciting discoveries about the world of work. Throughout the day, the children met a range of inspiring visitors, each sharing their experiences of different jobs and career journeys. The sessions gave pupils a valuable introduction to the many opportunities available to them in the future.
Year 1 Explore Van Gogh Through Landscape Art
Year 1 pupils at St Bega’s have been developing their creativity this week by creating their own Vincent Van Gogh-inspired landscape paintings. As part of their art learning, the children explored the work of the famous artist, gaining an understanding of his distinctive style and approach to painting.
Year 6 Pupils Praised for Confidence and Respect
Year 6 pupils at St Bega’s have been recognised for their outstanding behaviour and knowledge from a school visiting the Headland, praising a group of pupils for the way they represented St Bega’s.
After School Netball Fun at St Bega’s
Our After School Netball Club is in full swing, and it’s fantastic to see how much the children are enjoying it! From developing new skills to working together as a team, everyone is growing in confidence with each session. Most importantly, there are plenty of smiles as the children have lots of fun along the way.
Year 1 Explore Materials in Science
This week in Science, our Year 1 children have been busy comparing different objects, materials and their properties! The children worked thoughtfully to group materials, considering their properties and deciding how best to sort them. They used a range of scientific vocabulary to describe what they observed and gave clear reasons for their choices.
Coding with Micro:Bits in Year 4/5
Last week, our Year 4/5 class enjoyed an exciting visit from Mr Bailey, who introduced the children to coding using Micro:Bits alongside our Purple Mash programme. The session was highly interactive, allowing pupils to get hands-on with programming and see their code come to life. The children showed great enthusiasm and curiosity as they explored how to create and test their own projects.
