Catholic Social Teaching

At Saint Bega's Catholic Primary School, we aim to live out our Mission Statement 'Love one another as I have loved you' and put our faith into action.

Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is rooted in Scripture, formed by the wisdom of Church leaders. It is our moral compass, guiding us on how to live out our faith in the world.

Our faith calls us to love God and to love our neighbours in every situation, especially our sisters and brothers living in poverty. Following in the footsteps of Christ, we hope to make present in our unjust and broken world, the justice, love and peace of God.

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,

because he has anointed me

to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners

and recovery of sight for the blind,

to set the oppressed free,"

Luke 4:18-30

Catholic Social Teaching is based on the belief that God has a plan for creation, a plan to build his kingdom of peace, love and justice. It holds that God has a special plan for every single one of us, whoever we are. Our part in this plan isn’t just limited to things ‘spiritual’, or times when we do religious things. It involves every aspect of our lives, from the things we pray about, to how we live as a responsible global citizen.

St Bega’s children have a big part in this story, a call to treat everyone as our brothers and sisters. It is something that we all share in all aspects of our school life.

At St. Bega’s, Catholic Social Teaching is incorporated into our curriculum, trust virtues and the fundamental British values. It weaves through everything we do, every day.  Children are asked to put their faith into action and reflect on how their learning enables them to do so. Each Key Stage liturgy refers to Catholic Social Teaching which helps make the liturgy relevant to the children’s lives today.

Our children can articulate the connection between Jesus' teaching and doing good deeds how this should shape their lives today. We use the CAFOD and our trust Catholic Social Teaching resources to support the children’s understanding of the key principles.

Work we are proud of

Great British Beach Clean

As Global Citizens we took part in a beach clean to show care and concern for the beautiful world we live in. We are so fortunate to go to school with the beach and sea as our 'garden.' Lot's of our children got involved and went out with their families to clean up our local beach.

We collected for a local charity 'LilyAnne's'. This charity aims to help those facing homelessness in the town. So far, we have had collections of warm blankets and socks, shower gels, toothpaste and brushes and other hygiene products. Please see some photographs below from our amazing collections.
