Our Year 1 pupils at St. Bega’s Catholic Primary School, Hartlepool, had an exciting day out at the Hopetown Railway Museum in Darlington! This visit was part of their history topic on George Stephenson and the Railways, bringing classroom learning to life.
The children were thrilled to see a model of Locomotion No. 1, the famous train built by George Stephenson. They learned about its importance in railway history and how it changed travel forever. The museum offered plenty of hands-on fun too, with interactive displays and the popular Experience Ride, which gave pupils a sense of what early train journeys were like.
This trip was a fantastic way to deepen understanding of local and national history while sparking curiosity about engineering and transport.
Why Educational Visits Matter
At St. Bega’s, we believe that learning beyond the classroom helps children make real-world connections. Trips like this inspire a love of history and encourage active, experiential learning.
