This term, our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) children at St. Bega’s Catholic Primary School had a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature during a beautiful autumn walk through Ward Jackson Park. The aim was to explore the changing season and discover the magic of autumn firsthand.
The children were full of excitement as they spotted golden leaves, acorns, conkers, and even a few squirrels preparing for winter! Along the way, we talked about the vibrant colours of autumn, listened to the satisfying crunch of leaves underfoot, and collected some natural treasures to bring back to our classroom.
This outdoor learning experience was the perfect way to enjoy fresh air, develop observation skills, and learn through nature. Activities like these help children appreciate the world around them while supporting their curiosity and creativity.
Why Outdoor Learning Matters
At St. Bega’s, we believe that learning beyond the classroom is essential for developing a love of nature and an understanding of seasonal changes. Our EYFS curriculum encourages exploration, sensory experiences, and hands-on learning.
