Year 1 pupils at St Bega’s have been developing their creativity this week by creating their own Vincent Van Gogh-inspired landscape paintings.

As part of their art learning, the children explored the work of the famous artist, gaining an understanding of his distinctive style and approach to painting.

Discovering a Famous Artist

Pupils were introduced to Vincent Van Gogh and his expressive use of colour and texture. They looked closely at his work, discussing what they could see and how his techniques made his paintings unique.

This exploration helped children to:

  • recognise the features of a well-known artist’s style
  • develop observation and discussion skills
  • build an appreciation of different forms of art

Creating Their Own Masterpieces

Inspired by what they had learned, the children experimented with colour mixing before creating their own landscape paintings in the style of Van Gogh.

Using bold colours and expressive brushstrokes, each pupil produced an individual piece of artwork that reflected both the artist’s influence and their own creativity.
